Clitoral hoodoplasty
Known as clitoral hood reduction or a clitoral hoodectomy. A surgical procedure for reducing the size and the area of the clitoral hood (prepuce) in order to further expose the clitoral glans of the clitoris. As one of the most sensitive tissues of the female, an enlarged clitoral hood can negatively impact and affect sexual pleasure during sexual intercourse. Hence, it is sometimes done to improve the sexual functioning of the patient and the aesthetic refinement of the vulva to increase therapeutic goals of the sexual functioning of an individual, a form of hoodplasty. During the surgery, an adequate amount of tissue removed to allow for the clitoris to be stimulated easily. Patient surveys have indicated satisfaction with the outcome of such procedures.
Preparation:
• Taking days off work.
• Minimize the amount of smoking and alcohol 2 weeks at least ahead.
• Wearing loosest panties as much as possible.
• Get plenty of sleep.
• Avoid stressful activities like heavy exercises 1 week before.
• Postpone the procedure date if you have any symptomes of mensis 2 days before the procedure.
• Eat healthy, and drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the procedure.
This is a short outpatient procedure, which means you won’t have to stay the night at the hospital and can go home after the surgery. It’s commonly performed under IV sedation, but you can opt for general anesthesia if the need arises.
One technique for reducing the clitoral hood is the bilateral excision (cutting) of the prepuce tissues covering the clitoral glans, with special attention to maintaining the glans in the midline.
Another technique cuts away (excises) the redundant folds of clitoral prepuce tissue, with incisions parallel to the long axis of the clitoris.
• You will be monitored for 1-2 hours at recovery room. When you are conscious with no abnormal bleeding, you can urinate by yourself.
• Within the first 1-2 days after the surgery, applying a cold pack to the general surgical site to decrease swelling is possible.
• Do not take shower, which may potentially cause infection for the first two days.
• Keep the area dry.
• Avoid moisture around the surgical wound to keep the area dry to let it heal faster.
• After the surgery, you may have all kinds of food, but should refrain from alcoholic drinks, pickled food, and smoking for about 2 weeks.
• After 4 weeks of the surgery, relaxing exercises and lifting light weights are permitted. However, you should refrain from running, soaking in the bathtub, swimming, heavy lifting, cycling, other heavy activities, and sexual intercourse for at least 4-6 weeks after the surgery.
Patients’ surveys has indicated satisfaction with the outcome of the procedure. When this excess tissue is removed, it’s easier for women to get sexually aroused and eventually reach fulfillment. Clitoral hoodoplasty also undertakes to enhance the visual appeal of the clitoral hood.
Recovery varies as with every individual. You may return to work after 1-2 days of the surgery. Moreover, you should adhere to the physician’s appointment for follow up examination or treatment.
After the first 2 -4 weeks postoperative, the surgical wound is expected to heal appropriately, you may start your usual activities gradually; strenuous physical activities should be limited.
The most frequently reported risks:
• Bleeding.
• Infection.
• Scarring.
• Decreased/ increased clitoral sensation.
• Infection.
• Nerve damage if not done properly.
