Double Eyelid Surgery
Double eyelid surgery is the creation of creases in the upper eyelids are formed, creating double eyelids for larger-looking eyes. Typically for someone who has single or monolid. Some may choose to go for double eyelid surgery as their eyelids may be interfering with their vision.
Before your eyelid surgery:
• Stop taking warfarin and any other medication or herbal supplement associated with increased bleeding.
• Quit smoking several weeks before your surgery.
• Arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery and stay with you for the first night.
During the procedure
• Your surgeon injects numbing medication into your eyelids and administers intravenous medication to help you relax.
• The surgeon generally works on your upper lids first. Cutting along the fold of the eyelid, removes some excess skin, muscle and possibly fat, and closes the cut.
• Typically lasts from 45 minutes to 2 hours.
You may temporarily experience: Blurred/Double vision, light sensitivity, swelling and bruising.
Your doctor will likely suggest you take the following steps after surgery:
• Gently clean your eyelids and use prescribed eyedrops or ointments.
• Avoid straining, heavy lifting, strenuous activities and swimming for a week.
• Avoid smoking for a week.
• Avoid rubbing your eyes.
• Avoid use contact lenses, for two weeks.
• Wear darkly tinted sunglasses.
• Sleep with your head raised higher than your chest for a few days.
• For about a week, avoid aspirin, and other medications or herbal supplements that may increase bleeding.
Initial healing time following the incisional procedure can last up to two weeks. It may take several months to heal completely.
While you’re recovering, you might have some symptoms but these symptoms usually temporary:
• Bleeding from the incision.
• Bruising.
• Swelling, changes in skin sensation.
• Dry eyes, light sensitivity.
• Pain.
Mostly people will have permenant results of surgery for the rest of their life. For others, droopy eyelids may recur with aging due to the increase wrinkles folds. .
