Tips for choosing the right skincare product

Choosing the right skincare product that suits your skin can sometimes be a neverending journey of trial and error. That can cause not just time and money but effort and frustration. Now, with countless products available, numerous beauty influencers are promoting expensive and newly launched brands that can leave us more confounded.

However, choosing and buying the right product that will nourish your skin, keep it healthy, and have a sustainable routine shouldn’t be a battle but a journey to enjoy. The question is, where to start?

It starts right here! Here are a few helpful tips that you should keep in mind before buying skincare products.

1. Know your skin type and what affects it

Seeking out the best products for your skin requires you to choose products made for your skin. Figuring out whether you have oily, dry, normal, sensitive, or a combination skin type is the first step of revamping your skincare regime.

2. Don’t buy the hype

Seek out products that will benefit you and not get carried away by what others are using, packaging, and glowing reviews of influencers. What may work for one may not work for you and vice versa. So when it comes to your skin, only the best will do and it does not necessarily mean following the trend. It’s all about the ingredients and their efficacy based on your skin type.

3. Ingredients you need and what to avoid

Now you know that ingredient is what matters that will contribute to the betterment of the skin. Natural does not always mean better or more effective. While familiar words in the ingredient list may be more comforting to see, but may not be the safest route. For example, natural oils may sound great but it isn’t something you want to overload the skin with. Besides, the terms such as natural or organic are sometimes more of a marketing gimmick than anything else. Because of the lack of regulation, there aren’t specific standards to follow. These can offer empty promises or may only refer to one or two ingredients on the list.

4. Sustainable in the long run (Save time, money & environment)

Does your 10-step routine require lots of products? Perhaps your makeup drawer might be overflowing yet new bottles are being added. Not just the number of bottles being added to the collection.

Time spent on shopping, trying, and testing products. Having to find the most suited one. Besides, coming home and realize that a 10-step routine could take an hour or two in the morning and another round at night. That you could actually get the same result with one regime that suits you with minimal yet optimal benefit.

Amount of money spent on trial and error. And if the product which you first bought wasn’t suitable, it would land itself in the bin without even passing the halfway mark of the bottle.

With more products, waste relating to beauty products will continue to soar. One way to cut back towards a low-waste factor would be the use of glass bottles which are easily recyclable making them extra sustainable.
