Radiofrequency treatment for vaginal rejuvenation
Energy-based treatments are nonsurgical procedures that are performed for cosmetic reasons or to solve age-related conditions, such as lack of vaginal tightness and urinary incontinence. Two main types of energy-based treatments such as radiofrequency or laser energy provides a non-surgical option for vaginal rejuvenation.
Radiofrequency-based treatment such as ThermiVa, uses thermal heat energy that safely heats up the lining and external skin of the vagina. Thereby, damaging the tissue to increase cell growth as the body heals while leaving the surface of the skin unharmed.
This can be applied to both the labia major and minora in order to tighten, tone and lift.
Through RF energy treatments, patients have experienced a positive tightening effect, improved lubrication, and sensitivity. In fact, some have also experienced an improvement in muscle tone which has corrected cases of mild urinary incontinence.
Preparation:
• You will be instructed to stop taking blood thinners medications (NSAIDS).
• If you smoke, you will be asked to stop smoking at least two weeks before.
• Wearing loose undergarments as much as possible.
• Avoid stressful activities like heavy exercises 1 week before.
• Eat healthily and drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the procedure.
• It is highly recommended that you trim/shave your pubic hair prior to the procedure.
• Immediately prior to leaving home for the clinic, you will be required to light a shower and thoroughly clean it.
Little, if any, anesthetic is used during the procedure.
To begin, a small probe will be used to deliver the RF energy to the lining and outside of the vagina. You may feel a comfortable warm sensation during the administration.
Once completed, you are ready to resume normal activities without downtime.
Most patients only experience a tolerable, warming sensation and are able to resume all normal activity on the day. While it is recommended that the patient abstains from sexual intercourse right after treatment and may resume the next day.
Energy-based treatments for vaginal rejuvenation are not permanent. For the best results, more than one session would likely be needed.
Touch up treatment is recommended once every 8-12 months.
Results may be affected by pregnancy, childbirth, and aging.
Side effects can include redness, swelling, tenderness, vaginal discharge and cramping.
